Entertaining audiences and ideas.

Story consultant Fernanda Rossi, also known as the “documentary doctor” (www.documentarydoctor.com) brought her unique brand of medicine to Atlanta on January 25-28 when DAEL hosted “Doing Your Doc: Diverse Visions, Regional Voices”, an intensive weekend seminar on how get your documentary project finished, refined and funded sponsored by the National Association of Latino Independent Producers. About 20 of Atlanta’s established and emerging documentarians attended the workshop and brought projects that showcased the diversity and talent of the Atlanta filmmaking community. Fernanda covered everything from budgets and proposal writing to making fundraising trailers and looking for distribution. She even brought in local musicians Jennifer and Jonathan Adams of Montana Skies (www.montantaskiesmusic.com) to demonstrate how to commission original music. Workshop participants were also given a chance to pitch their projects in group mentoring sessions with industry professionals including Leslie Fields Cruz, Director of Programming for the National Black Programming Consortium and filmmaker Reggie Allen, whose film “10 days in Africa” will be broadcast on PBS stations as part of the new series AfroPop. The workshop was a great event for all who attended and a not miss event for anyone interested in documentary production. Check Fernanda’s website for opportunities to attend upcoming workshops.
